Grandfather Clock Selection › Grandfather Clock by J.H.Hunsdon of Chelmsford, 8-Day, Circa. 1790. (SOLD)

Grandfather Clock by J.H.Hunsdon of Chelmsford, 8-Day, Circa. 1790. (SOLD)

£1,150.00

J. H. Hunsdon of Chelmsford – Circa 1790

An exceptionally fine George III japanned longcase clock, dating to the late 18th century and presenting in outstanding condition.

The 8-day movement is housed behind a handsome silvered dial, featuring a finely engraved Strike / Silent ring within the arched top, together with a working seconds dial and date aperture. The movement itself is clean and well maintained, keeping excellent time and striking the hour clearly on a bell.

The hood is richly decorated and surmounted by a swept cavetto pediment, supported on decorated pilasters, giving the clock a strong and elegant architectural presence.

The trunk remains in good, solid condition and features a break-arched, moulded door adorned with chinoiserie decoration, retaining its original working lock and key.

The japanned finish throughout is remarkably well preserved, with only minor evidence of restoration consistent with age, and serves to enhance the clock’s authenticity and appeal.

A particularly attractive and increasingly scarce example of a late George III japanned longcase clock by a Chelmsford maker.

Dimensions:

Height: 87.75 inches

Width: 18.5 inches

Depth: 9.5 inches
