Grandfather Clock by 'Thomas Hardwick' of Ridgemount, 8 Day.

£995.00

THOMAS HARDWICK of RIDGEMOUNT

An intriguing Longcase Clock by a decorated clockmaker, who’s work is featured in the British Museum.

This is a good-looking 8-day Georgian clock, housed in a rich oak case with a pagoda top.

It has an arched Adams style silvered face which is in excellent condition and has Roman and Arabic numerals. There is a STRIKE/SILENT dial (working), a seconds hand and a date wheel (also working).

The movement is in good condition and keeps good time. It strikes the hour to a bell.

The hood is supported on fluted wooden pillars with brass cappings.  It has glazed sides. To the top are three brass finials.

The case is solid and in excellent condition. It has a full-length door which has a working lock and key.

Life dates 1753-1824. Baptised in Ridgmont in 1753.

(Bibliography: Chris Pickford, Bedfordshire Clock & Watchmakers 1352 - 1880, Bedfordshire Historical Record Society Vol. 70, 141-143)
