HEDGE OF COLCHESTER
The Hedge family are noted clockmakers working in the 18th and 19th centuries, with early examples in particular commanding a substantial price. They are recorded in “Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World” books.Another imposing clock, this example is a George III 8-day rose mahogany long case, with a brass arched dial, Roman and Arabic numerals, second dial, and Tempus Fugit.
The hood has swan neck pediments and tapered columns. There is evidence of some minor restoration.
The movement is very substantial, and is in excellent clean restored condition.
The case is inlaid with delicate marquetry above the door and below the fluted corners, and has a lovely patina.
H = 91” (231cm)
